Navajo Hogan in Summer Ornament

This ornament shows the traditional dwelling of the Navajo, the hogan. Leo Benally is the Navajo artist who made it. He has built his own full size hogan. The summer version shows a wagon drawn up to the hogan. When Leo was a boy, this is the way Navajos traveled. His ornament makes a fine addition to a southwest Christmas tree. A typical hogan ornament is on a wooden base that is 4 inches wide (10 cm.).
