Boxed Peruvian Retablo

This small Peruvian Retablo contains a nativity scene. It is historic, purchased by the Cokes in the 1950’s. Its hinges are leather. Baby Jesus lies beneath a star. He has a gold halo. Mary and Joseph also have halos. They are joined by adoring shepherds and a lamb. One side of the wooden box may have been wiped with a wet cloth, which smeared the paint, but this slight flaw is unnoticed when the Retablo is viewed from the front. The height from the bottom to the highest point is six and a half inches (17 cm.)
