Navajo Hogan in Winter Ornament

This ornament shows the traditional dwelling of the Navajo, the hogan. Leo Benally is the Navajo artist who made it. He has built his own full size hogan. The winter version shows a wagon drawn up to the hogan and the whole scene is covered with snow. When Leo was a boy Navajos traveled with wagons like this. His ornament makes a fine addition to a southwest Christmas tree. A typical hogan ornament is on a base that is 4 inches wide (10 cm.).
