Alice in Wonderland with a Pig
As if that flamingo wasn't a challenge, now Alice has a pig to manage. It started out as a crying baby, but in Wonderland anything can happen. Leah Benaus's felt Alice holding the pig has delightful high button shoes, brown and white striped stockings, an embroidered apron over her brown felt dress, and a pretty necklace. That pig has a lace bonnet and a pink bow. Together they illustrate a famous scene from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. Buy the whole set, or just one. There is a magic in each one of them, thanks to Leah Benau's talent for design and attention to detail.

Alice in Wonderland with a Flamingo

Those flamingos are so difficult to use as croquet mallets! Alice just can't seem to make the bird understand what he should do to hit the croquet ball. Instead he wants to move his head around. Leah Benau's Flamingo alco can move his head around, because his neck has a sturdy wire inside it. Alice, herself, is demurely dressed in a blue dress with a white embroidered apron, pink and white striped stockings, and black shoes, but she definately has a lot on her hands with that flamingo. This special version of Alice in Wonderland is a bit more than some of Leah's other designs, but it is easy to see why. Alice is six and a half inches tall.

The Mad Hatter by Leah Benau

He's trying to be proper and dignified at the tea party, but that dormouse keeps popping out of the teapot. Leah's Mad Hatter is an unforgettable character from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland". He is all felt except for his silk tie and the tiny buttons on his shirt and on the back of his coat. The paper sign in his hat brim is supposed to be the price of the top hat. His unkempt hair seems to suggest that he's not completely in charge of his wits, but he is delightful, an original design by Leah Benau. Her imagination and talent continue to amaze us at Susan's Christmas Shop. The Madd Hatter is almost eight inches tall, thanks to that fine hat on that empty head.

White Rabbit by Leah Benau
"I'm late, Im late, for a very important date!" Leah Benau's White Rabbit is inspired by the Arthur Rackham illustrations for Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. It is completely felt except for the watch chain, the buttons on the black vest, and the red silk tie around this distracted bunny's neck. This is part of a series of Alice in Wonderland designs Leah recently created. If you like this one, see the two versions of Alice, as well as the Mad Hatter. All are delightful, and both Lewis Carroll and Arthur Rackham would have loved them. The White Rabbit is about six and a half inches tall. Catch him if you can...he's in a hurry!

Navajo Mother by Leah Benau

Navajo Mother by Leah Benau
Leah Benau's Navajo Mother and Child is mostly made of felt, like the majority of her designs, but this one has a cotton printed skirt. The Navajo Mother wears her hair in the traditional way and wears silver and turquoise earrings. On her feet are tiny felt moccasins with silver buttons. Of course, the earrings and buttons are not actually silver and turquouse, but hand stitched beads. She proudly holds her happy baby, wrapped in a blanket. Beneath her printed cotton skirt, she wears white felt pantaloons. There is so much detail on this design, that the price is a bit more than other Leah Benau designs, but she is one of the most appealing of her Southwest Collection. She'd be outstanding on a southwest tree or a Leah Benau tree, or as a gift for a new mother or grandmother. It would also be a good choice for "Baby's First Christmas", because a felt ornament will survive the childhood years and become a cherished heirloom ornament. This ornament is about six and a half inches tall.

These are lots of work, since they are dressed layer by layer before baking. The painting is also time consuming, but there's something about Raggedy Ann and Andy. These are available only when Susan finds a quiet moment to create.

German Easter Bunny Ornament by Susan Weber

This ornament was inspired by a 19th century German postcard featuring German style bunnies exchanging Easter eggs. Susan made so many of these last Easter, and they always sold out. She likes them so much that she will make them outside of the Easter season for those who find them irresistible. This ornament is about three inches tall.
