San Elizario Mission was built in 1883. An earlier mission on that site served as a fort, defending the settlers against attacks by hostile Comanche and Apache warriors. Historically, it's a New Mexico church, even if it is presently in the state of Texas.

Socorro Mission dates from 1691, and is considered the oldest continuing parish in what is now the United States. Modern day borders place this church in Texas, but it is located on the route of the early Spanish colonists as they pushed north into Nuevo Mexico, today's New Mexico.

The First Presbyterian Church in Taos is on the main street. The church was organized in 1874, but the present structure was dedicated in 1952. It is built in the popular adobe style.

Ysleta Mission is close to El Paso. It is the oldest mission in Texas, dating from 1680. Those who founded it were fleeing the Pueblo Revolt of the same year.

The old adobe church of San Ysidro is in Corrales, just north of Albuquerque in the valley. It was built in the mid 19th century, after a flood on the Rio Grand destroyed an earlier church.
