The Night of Las Posadas by Tomie de Paola, Hard Cover
The Night of Las Posadas by Tomie de Paola, Hard Cover
Tomie de Paola is the author and illustrator of two hundred well loved books for children. He came to Santa Fe for Christmas years ago, and this special book is the result. Susan had the pleasure of meeting him at that time, and her name is in the dedication to this book, as well as many of her friends' names. Las Posadas is an ancient Spanish play traditionally performed before Christmas, but Santa Fe's version adds a few special touches. The event takes place on the plaza, and ends up in the courtyard of the four hundred year old Palace of the Governors, where traditional music is played for the crowds under starry skies. Tomie sets his story in this context, and it is accurate, dramatic, and good reading for young and old. It has a glossery for the Spanish words associated with the story. It is one of Susan's favorite Christmas books. It is available in hard cover and soft cover.

Santa Fe in 88 Picturs by Lisa Hoff
Santa Fe in 88 Picturs by Lisa Hoff
This small soft color book is highly recommended as a visual guide to northern New Mexico. It can be enjoyed by those who live here as well as by those who wish they did. Not only are the photographs first rate, but the imformative text is in English, German, and French, and there are useful maps of downtown Santa Fe and New Mexico from Albuquerque north to Taos. The book is eight and a quarter inches by six and a half inches, and is light enough to be carried by visitors to this magical part of New Mexico.

Santa Fe Christmas by Christine Mather
Santa Fe Christmas by Christine Mather
Christine Mather is famous for her book, Santa Fe Style, which has become a classic. This small book about Christmas in Santa Fe is also a classic. The only edition now in print is a soft cover measuring six and a half inches by six and a half inches. It is full of color photographs showing how Santa Fe decorates for Christmas, the enduring New Mexico traditions still practiced in Pueblos and villages, and also includes recipies for favorite Christmas food and drink. It still sells well at Susan's Shop, and will be a good companion to Susan Topp Weber's own book about Christmas in Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico, available in July of 2010.
