Apache Burden Basket Ornament
Full sized Apache baskets are famous and rare. These miniature burden baskets can hang on your Christsmas tree to represent another southwest tribe and culture. Full sized burden baskets were used in centuries past to carrry burdens, and the tump line would go accross the woman's forehead, while the basket itself would lie on her back. The dangles with metal cones on their tips are ornamental. These miniatures were made by White Mountain Apache of authentic materials. Any basket takes a long time to make, which is reflected in the price. From the basket rim to the tip of the dangle is eight inches.

Cochiti Pueblo Pottery Nativity by Felicita Eustace
Felicita Eustace is now in her 80's. She has many children who are famous jewelers. Felicita makes old style Cochiti pottery, using the traditional Cochiti clay slip. That slip is now next to impossible to obtain, so there is doubt about this tradition's chances of survival. Felicitas's figures have the genuine charm that seems to be characteristic of Cochiti figures. Baby Jesus is wrapped in soft white deer skin. Mary is four and a half inches tall.

Jemez Pueblo Pottery Nativity in a Pueblo House by Santana Seonia
This nativity by Santana is set into a pueblo house with a corner fireplace, just like her mother used to have. Like the kiva version, this nativity has an angel for sitting on top of the house, three Wise Men with gifts, and a shepherd with four animals. It's difficult to say which version is better, as both sell very well. The house is three and a half inches tall. Susan will include a story she wrote for the Creche Herald, describing nativity customs of Jemez Pueblo.

San Felipe Peublo Pottery Drummer boy by Daryl Candelaria

Daryl Candelaria is a talented potter from San Felipe Pueblo. He wins prizes for his large pots at Indian Market, but occasionally he makes smaller items to be used as ornaments. This drummer boy holds a child on his lap, so you might call him a story teller too. Daryl taught his younger brother, Garren, to make these ornaments as wee, and Garren's are a bit less expensive.

Cochiti Gourd Ornament by Sean Morningstar
Sean Morningstar is from Cochiti Pueblo, and he loves the pottery traditions of his pueblo. He grew small gourds, and then painted them as if they were full sized Cochiti pots. They are very light weight, and look very nice on a southwest Christmas tree. Sean's "logo" of a morning star is placed on the bottom of each special ornament. No two designs are alike, but all are traditional Cochiti pottery designs. A typical size is three inches in diameter.
